Titian used chiaroscuro to his advantage, as seen in his "The Crowning with Thorns" (c. 1570-76, oil on canvas). Note how the highest highlights fall on the body of Christ. Even though there are other light values, this makes Christ the focal point of this work. Again, the background seems to fade into flat geometric shapes.
